Financial suggestions
Ramsey supports the method of snowball debt, where debtors pay off their lowest balance debts first rather than pay off their highest interest rate debts first. Although this approach has been criticized by some, such as NerdWallet.com, other studies such as those conducted by Kellogg School of Management have found that debt snowball methods are generally effective. The article states that a small victory provides the debtor's motivation. A study by 2016 by Harvard Business School also found people who used the snowball method to pay off their smallest account in advance paying more of their debt than those using other methods.
Ramsey states that investors can get an average annual return of 12% and this is the amount he uses in financial analysis. Critics argue that using the average annual rate of return is misleading and that the combined annual growth rate is a better measure when planning the investment. Critics also stated that a 12% return is unrealistically high - the usual planning assumption is 4%. According to Motley Fool, after Ramsey's calculations can cause individuals to be less invested for retirement.
Ramsey recommends investors to withhold all their investments in equity funds, which have been criticized for being more volatile than bonds. He recommends that retirees withdraw 8% of their retirement annually., Contrast with 4% which is generally recommended.
In 2010, Ramsey received criticism on social media sites to build large and luxurious homes. He replied that home costs are paid in cash, representing a very low percentage of his net worth, and have been used to host many fundraising for ministries, charities and causes of society.
Controversy
According to interviews with nearly two dozen current employees and former Nashville-based Ramsey Solutions, Ramsey has been involved in what they describe as an increasingly paranoid campaign to identify and silence some criticisms - mostly former employees - who have appeared on Facebook and Twitter. Strange episodes allegedly involving online spies, gag pretenses, random dismissals, and huge money-prize offerings for information have created a climate of fear within Lampo's headquarters, intensifying the discomfort many employees have felt over the past few years with Ramsey's management.
