Joseph T. Deters (born April 4, 1957) is an American Republican politician currently serving as Attorney for Hamilton County, Ohio.

Careers
Deters began his career in public service in 1982 as Assistant Attorney of Hamilton County. He was elected to the position of Hamilton County Clerk of Courts in 1988. In 1992, Deters returned to Hamilton District Attorney's office when he was elected as Attorney. He was re-elected in 1996.
In 1999, the Deters was inaugurated as State Treasurer of the 44th State of Ohio. As Treasurer, he is responsible for collecting, managing, and investing more than $ 11 billion in assets for the State of Ohio. In the fall of 2004, Deters became the writing candidate for the previous position, Hamilton County Prosecutor. He was elected as Hamilton County Prosecutor on November 2, 2004 with nearly 60% of the vote. On April 1, 2005, Deters and Matthias Heck were sued in their official capacity in a federal suit, Citizens for Tax Reform v. Deters .
In 2012, Deters was very critical of Xavier University for banishing Dezmine Wells, one of his basketball players, for alleged rape. Prior to the school hearing on the matter, the jury had refused to sue Wells and Deters, who was known for fouling crime and said the prosecutor's office had conducted a thorough investigation, stating that the allegations lacked credibility and "not even close" decisions. the school process had violated Wells' right to a fair trial by putting the burden of proof on Wells instead of the accuser, had assigned incompetent staff to check forensic evidence, and prevent Wells from presenting evidence that would prove his worth. not guilty. After learning of Xavier's decision, he asked the university to reexamine Wells's expulsion.
On July 29, 2015, the Deters supervised the Cincinnati Police College Ray Tensing's charges in the killing of Sam DuBose during a traffic stop. He called the killing "unfounded" and "unreasonable." His comments about the murder received some criticism from the public. Many critics also point out comments published by the Cincinnati Enquirer editorial board that had previously criticized Deters for his remarks on violent attacks earlier in the month that he decided not to be accused of a racially motivated crime. Deters was a 1979 graduate from the University of Cincinnati and graduated from the University of Cincinnati College of Law in 1982. He is a member of the Cincinnati Bar Association, the National District Bar Association and the Ohio Litigation Association. He has worked for the Ohio University Board of Supervisors, the Ohio Organized Crime Commission and the Southern Ohio Leukemia Foundation.
