Initial years
McCartney was born Linda Louise Eastman, the eldest of four children, in New York City. He has an older brother, John (born 1939), and two younger sisters, Laura (born 1947) and Louise Jr., (b.1950).
His father, Leopold Vail Epstein, was born in 1910 by Russian Jewish immigrants. He then changed his name to Lee Eastman. He practiced entertainment law in New York for famous clients, including band leader Tommy Dorsey, songwriters Harold Arlen and Jack Lawrence, and fine artists like Willem de Kooning and Mark Rothko. At the request of his father, Lawrence wrote the song "Linda" when McCartney was four years old. The song was recorded by Buddy Clark in 1947 and went to number 1 on the charts. It was again recorded in 1963 by Jan and Dean.
Mrs McCartney, Louise Sara (Lindner) Eastman, comes from a German Jewish family and is the daughter of Max J. Lindner, founder of the Lindner Company clothing store in Cleveland, Ohio.
McCartney grew up in prosperous Scarsdale in Westchester County, New York, and graduated from Scarsdale High School in 1959. After high school, McCartney studied at Vermont College, where he received an Associate of Arts degree in 1961.
His brother John, who studied law like their father, later became a lawyer and manager Paul McCartney.
Linda deviates from the family law tradition, preferring nature and animals. After graduating from Vermont College, McCartney attended the University of Arizona and majored in Fine Arts.
While McCartney was at the University of Arizona, his mother was killed in an accident of American Airlines Flight 1 in 1962 in Queens, New York. McCartney later said that due to the death of his mother, he hated traveling through the air. In Arizona he took natural photography as a hobby.

Careers
Photography
After his mother died in 1962, he married Melville See, and they had a daughter, Heather. Mrs. McCartney left her money to live, along with some valuable paintings. The couple divorced after three years of marriage in 1965.
McCartney became assistant receptionist and editorial for Town & amp; Country Magazine . During that time, in 1965, he became involved in romance with David Dalton, a professional photographer. He learns how he works during shooting, learns about how he organizes shots and regulates illumination and composition. As he begins to do more of his own shoots, like with a musical group, he says he "wonders" how easily he controls non-compliant or uncooperative musicians. He was able to make his subject do what he wanted without much fuss. Dalton said that rock group shooting was "a pain in the neck, but with beautiful Linda, all this changed... Now their eyes are on her."
Dalton was also impressed with the wit of McCartney's daughter. "Linda and I will be tall and Heather will say the most amazing things... I'll think, 'This is AndrÃÆ'à © Breton at the age of six!'" She added that she found Linda's relationship with Heather as " very fascinating." from his life with this wonderful child. "
On one occasion, when the magazine received an invitation to photograph the Rolling Stones during a promotional party on a cruise ship, he immediately volunteered to represent the publication as his photographer. The photoshoot marked a turning point in his life:
I was the only photographer they allowed on a cruise ship. I just keep clicking with the camera, and they enjoy it and I enjoy it, and suddenly I find that taking photos is a great way to live and a great way to work.
McCartney's father, however, was not impressed with his goal of becoming a photographer himself. She wants him to at least take some formal training with a professional photographer. "Well, I never had the patience for that," he said. "I have to believe my feelings." He did, however, study horse photography on campus in Arizona under Hazel Larsen Archer and became at that time a diligent living pastime, using high-quality Leica cameras. A few months after the Rolling Stones photoshoot, he was allowed backstage at Shea Stadium, where the Beatles performed.
McCartney has gained experience in celebrity photography, and he became an unofficial home photographer at the East Bill Fillmore concert hall. Among the artists he photographed were Todd Rundgren, Aretha Franklin, Grace Slick, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, Eric Clapton, Simon & amp; Garfunkel, Who, Doors, Animals, John Lennon and Neil Young. Young's photograph, taken in 1967, was used on the cover of Sugar Mountain - Live at Canterbury House 1968 in 2008.
He photographed Clapton for Rolling Stone magazine and became the first woman to have a photo featured on the front cover (May 11, 1968). She and her husband Paul also appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone on January 31, 1974, making her the only person who has taken photos, and photographed, for the front cover of the magazine. The photographs are then on display in over 50 international galleries and also at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. The collection of photographs from that time, Sixies Linda McCartney: Portrait of an Era , was published in 1993. He also took photos for the cover of Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson's single "The Girl Is Mine".
Music
After the breakup of The Beatles in 1970, Paul taught Linda to play keyboard and record album with him, Ram , as duo. The couple then formed the band Wings. The group garnered several Grammy Awards, becoming one of the most successful bands in the UK in the 1970s, but had to endure with a joke about Linda's singing. He later admitted that the allegations about his singing that were not in tune with his early days with Wings were true.
In 1977, a reggae-inspired single titled "Seaside Woman" was released by an unknown band called Suzy and Red Stripes on Epic Records in the United States. In fact, Suzy and Red Stripes are Wings, with Linda (who also wrote the song) on ââthe main vocals. The song was recorded by Wings in 1972, in response to a lawsuit by Northern Songs and Maclen Music accusing Paul of violating the exclusive rights agreement by collaborating on the song "Another Day", which has the effect of transferring a 50% share of issuing royalties to McCartney Music own. The lawsuit, which alleges that Linda's writing credits are not authentic and that she is not a true songwriter, "was resolved peacefully," according to ATV spokesman, in June 1972.
The McCartneys shared an Oscar nomination for the co-composition of the song "Live and Let Die" and was photographed together on the show in April 1974. The Linda Wide Prairie album, which included "Seaside Woman," was released posthumously on in 1998. Along with eight other British composers, Paul contributed to A Garland's choir album for Linda and dedicated his classic album Ecce Cor Meum to his late wife.
Personal life
Wedding
Melville See Jr. (1962-1965)
Eastman's first marriage was to Melville See Jr., whom he met in college. He studied geology at Princeton and after graduation enrolled at the University of Arizona in Tucson to earn a master's degree. Eastman followed him there, where he enrolled on the same campus to study art history. He studied there in March 1962 when his mother died in a commercial plane crash.
She married in June 1962; their daughter Heather Louise was born six months later on December 31, 1962. The couple had a different lifestyle and they divorced three years later in June 1965. She is an academic who spends much of her time studying or doing research while she prefers life intellectual home. He loves the vast open space in Arizona and enjoys horseback riding through desert scenes. The arrangement, with saguaro cacti, reminds him of the scenery of western films, which inspired him to take photography as a hobby.
Paul McCartney (1969-1998)
On May 15, 1967, while doing photo work in London, Eastman met Paul McCartney at Bag O'Nails club, where Georgie Fame was performing. They met again four days later at the launch party for Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band at home of Brian Epstein. When his duties finished, he flew back to New York City.
They gathered again in May in New York, while he and John Lennon were there to inaugurate Apple Records. A few weeks after he returned to London, he invited him to spend time with him there. When he arrived, they went to his house, where they spent the night. "He must be very happy that night," said one of the fans who often paced outside his home. "He sits on the window sill with his acoustic guitar and sings 'Blackbird' to us" from the upstairs room.
Paul was attracted to him for a number of reasons. She explains: "I like her as a woman, she's handsome with a nice figure, so I'm physically attracted to her." But he also likes his free feelings: "His mental attitude is rebellious enough... [growing] he is the kind of kid who will hang out in the kitchen with black waiters" to learn cooking. He does not like socializing. They both love the natural environment, he says, and they share the love of nature, which becomes one of their most important emotional relationships. He knows that because of his "free spirit," he is considered a rebel and scapegoat by his family for avoiding a superior education, unlike his father and brother. "He is an artist," Paul said, "and it does not fit into academics."
Linda's daughter, Heather, created another strong bond between them, because she always liked and wanted her own children. When he first met Heather, then six years old, he insisted that he and Linda move to London to live with him. After they do, he devotes time to Heather, plays with her, reads her story, and draws cartoons with her. He sings to sleep at bedtime.
Biographer Philip Norman notes that Linda has some aspects of personality that Paul admired. He seems less concerned with his clothes or public appearance, preferring to dress casually, even in a semi-formal setting. He usually holds his arm when they are together, often "stares at him in amazement," and seems to idolize him. However, Paul's friends claim that his own appearance also becomes less formal, whether less often shaved or simply wearing simpler clothing. "He can take a bus to Apple," the waiter said, "and no one will recognize it."
Linda's innocent attitude about everyday things began to affect her in another way. She remembered ever feeling guilty for her exhausted work and, having trained herself to never look tired, apologized to her. He simply replied, "it's allowed," which amazes him. "I remember thinking, Dammit! It's a mind-blower.I have never been with anyone who thinks like that... it's clear that it's allowed to get tired."
Around this time, Paul fell into a depression because of the delayed delay of The Beatles. He will spend his days in bed and drink excessively, not knowing what to do with his life. McCartney later said that Linda helped her out of the emotional crisis by praising her work as a songwriter and persuading her to continue writing and recording:
After going through her troubled career phase, she wrote, "Maybe I'm amazed," in Linda's honor. He explained during the interview that the song was written "for me and Linda," and that with the Beatles broke up, "that's my feeling: Maybe I'm amazed at what happened... Maybe I'm a man and maybe you are the only woman who can help me, Baby will not help me understand... Maybe I am amazed by the way you pull me out of time, hanging me on the phone, Maybe I am amazed at the way I really need you. "He added that" every love song I write is for Linda. "
They married in a small civil ceremony in the Marylebone area of ââLondon on March 12, 1969. British fans had a very negative reaction to the marriage, partly because it ended McCartney's status as the last unbound Beatles. Together with John Lennon's new wife, Yoko Ono (whom Lennon married a week later), Linda is regarded as one of the causes of the breakup of the group. Lennon at one point has publicly criticized the way the press treats Linda: "She got the same humiliation, hatred, rubbish as thrown at her for no reason other than falling in love with Paul McCartney."
During their 29-year marriage, McCartneys has four children: in addition to his daughter Heather from her first marriage (which was later adopted formally by Paul), Paul is Mary's biological father (b.1969), Stella (b) 1971), and James (b. 1977).
They sometimes go to his rest house in western Scotland, which he bought before meeting, the hidden place he used to "escape from Beatlemania." They both like and need time away from the city, and are equally interested in the natural environment, write a biography of Barry Miles. "We just enjoy sitting in nature," says Paul. The song "Two of Us" on the Let i Be album was written by Paul in one of their country drives. "This song is about it: doing nothing, trying to get lost... [and] the incredible free attitude we can have Linda recalls the arrangement:
Scotland is not like I've lived in. This is the most beautiful land you have ever seen, far away at the end. For me it was the first feeling I ever had about civilization... so different from all hotels and limousines and the music business, so that was quite a relief.
He also began to write more songs from the studio. "I find that I enjoy working alone," he said. She wrote the song "The Lovely Linda" for her debut solo album while they were living in Scotland. In 1971 they both recorded the album Ram .
She became Lady McCartney when her husband became knighted in 1997. His brother, entertainment lawyer John Eastman, has been representing McCartney since the breakup of The Beatles.
Lifestyle
Vegetarianism
Paul and Linda McCartney became vegetarians in 1971, and he promoted the vegetarian diet through his cookbook: Linda McCartney's Home Cooking (with author Peter Cox, 1989), Linda Kitchen, and Simple and Inspiring Recipes for Meatless Meals . He explained his change to vegetarianism by saying that he did not "eat anything with a face... If slaughterhouses have glass walls, the whole world will become vegetarian".
Animal rights activist
McCartneys became a vegetarian and a vocal animal rights activist. In 1991, he introduced a row of frozen vegetarian dishes under the name of Linda McCartney Foods, which made him rich independently of her husband. Company H. J. Heinz acquired the company in March 2000, and Hain Celestial Group bought it in 2007.
As a strong advocate for animal rights, Linda lends her support to many organizations such as the Society for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), the British Rural Protection Council, and Friends of the Earth. He is also the protector of League Against Cruel Sports. He narrated the TV commercial for PETA, where he said: "Have you ever seen the fish gasping when you brought it out of the water? They said, 'Thank you so much for killing me. No! It hurts! "After his death, PETA created the Linda McCartney Memorial Award.
Ganja
In 1984, McCartney was arrested in Barbados for possessing marijuana; her husband was arrested in Los Angeles on the same charge in 1975. After flying to Heathrow Airport, London, she was arrested on allegations of possession. He then commented that, while the hard drugs are "disgusting", marijuana is "quite mild".
Death
McCartney was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1995, and his condition soon worsened as it spread to his liver. He died of illness at the age of 56 on April 17, 1998, on the McCartney family farm in Tucson, Arizona. His family was with him when he died.
He was cremated in Tucson, and his ashes scattered on the McCartney farm in Sussex, England. Her husband then advised fans to remember it by donating to a breast cancer research charity that does not support animal testing, "or the best award - to be vegan." A memorial service was held for him at St. Martin-in-the-Fields in London, attended by George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Billy Joel, Elton John, David Gilmour, Peter Gabriel, and other celebrities among the 700 people. A memorial service was also held at Riverside Church in Manhattan, two months after his death. "She's my boyfriend," McCartney said at his funeral. "I lost my girlfriend."
He left all his property to Paul, including royalties from books or records, and all rights to his photograph. He has promised to continue his vegetarian diet, and make it free from genetically modified organisms.
Tributes and dedications
A few months after his death, Edinburgh's premiere International Film Festival Wide Prairie , a six-minute cartoon fantasy movie he created with director Oscar Grillo.
In April 1999, Paul McCartney appeared in the tribute of "Concert for Linda" at the Royal Albert Hall, which had been hosted by two of their friends Chrissie Hynde and Carla Lane. Among the performing artists, besides Paul, are George Michael, Pretenders, Elvis Costello, and Tom Jones. Paul concludes the concert by dedicating the event to Linda, whom she calls "beautiful babies", and their children.
In January 2000, Paul announced a donation of more than $ 2,000,000 for cancer research at the Sloan-Kettering Memorial Cancer Center in New York and the Arizona Cancer Center in Tucson, where Linda received treatment. Donations, through Garland Appeals, are made on condition that no animal shall be used for testing purposes. Also in 2000, The Linda McCartney Center, a cancer clinic, opened at The Royal Liverpool University Hospital. In November 2002, the Linda McCartney Kintyre Memorial Trust opened a memorial park in Campbelltown, the main town of Kintyre, with its bronze statue made by his cousin, sculptor Jane Robbins.
On-screen depictions
Linda McCartney and her husband Paul appeared as themselves on the episode of "Bread" in 1988, and an episode of The Simpsons, entitled "Lisa the Vegetarian", in 1995. After his death, The Simpsons of the 200th episode of "Trash The Titans", which aired on April 26, 1998, and Paul McCartney on Tuesday of 2000 (directed by Geoff Dunbar) both dedicated to his memory. Simpsons executive producer Mike Scully says, "It seems like the right thing to do, everyone here is shocked and saddened by his death."
