The 2013 New York divorce torture plot is a sting operation conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation against a gang that has kidnapped the Jews and tortured them to give their wife a religious divorce. It begins with the understanding of the Rabbi David Wax , culminating in the arrest of a group of rabbis from New York under the direction of Mendel Epstein, including Jay Goldstein , Binyamin Stimler , and Martin Wolmark , who was involved in the planned kidnapping and torture of a fictitious Jewish husband in Middlesex County, New Jersey, in order to get from him. Epstein and his men were found guilty of attempted kidnapping in 2015, and sentenced to prison, while Epstein's son, David Epstein, was released.

A Jewish man is permitted to divorce his wife for any reason by first receiving his permission, and then giving him a get. If he does not want to, and complaints against him are very important, he can catch up to Heter meah rabbanim and remarry, though rarely gets an award.
A Jewish woman seeking a divorce from her husband must convey her complaint to Beth din with implications of serious physical disability or character defects. The husband must be willing to divorce his wife, because if he gives negligence, the divorce does not apply, and every prospective offspring will be regarded as a mamzer. If circumstances really guarantee divorce and the husband does not want to, the lady has the prerogative to institutionalize the act of ostracism to the public to "force her until she agrees," with physical strength provided only for the rarest case.
It was in this halakha gray area that in the mid-1980s a rabbi from Brooklyn, New York, Mendel Epstein, began advocating women seeking religious divorce from their husbands. Dubbed the The Prodfather by the press for the proud use of livestock prod- ucts against its victims, Epstein started a divorce gang that forced these people to give got through the use of violence. Although US law prohibits kidnapping, assault and torture, some rabbis have secretly listed this "inhuman" act against "angry husbands". If a man gets very scared of this treatment because of a heart attack, Epstein will order his gang to "Take the right turn and let him die."
In 1991, male rights activist Monty Weinstein held a protest with 25 people outside Epstein's house, with some carrying signs that read "Stop Mendel Epstein!"

Victim
Abraham Rubin : On October 23, 1996 at Borough Park, Brooklyn, Rubin was pushed into a van, beaten and stung with a shock on his cock until he agreed to give his wife a get. After a 3 hour ordeal, he was handcuffed and blindfolded at the entrance to the cemetery. The allegations were handed down to his attacker by Brooklyn district lawyer Charles Hynes in 2000, after Rubin "could not identify the attacker." Stephen Weiss : An accountant, Weiss advanced in 1998, claiming that his jaw, legs, and arms were broken in 1992 by members of the ring run by Epstein and Martin Wolmark, but no arrest has been created. Newsday interviewed a dozen residents of Borough Park and Midwood, Brooklyn, all claiming they were harassed, threatened, or assaulted by men working for their estranged wives. Hynes agreed to investigate the allegations, but, despite pressure from the victims, he refused to sue.Candle implies on Epstein
In October 2010, David Wax and his wife Judy were arrested for involvement in Bryskman's kidnapping, and Wax later agreed to testify as a government witness, identifying Epstein as head of operations. Their relationship back to the 1980s, when Epstein had forced divorce with his sister Wax. The Bryskman case caused the federal authorities in New Jersey to begin their investigation of Mendel Epstein for his role in the crime.
FBI attack operation
In the summer of 2013, a woman contacted Martin Wolmark, an Epstein's accomplice, and told the story of a husband who refused to give him. Wolmark says:
On August 14, 2013 he visited Epstein at Lakewood with another man whom he said was his brother. Epstein said to two visitors:
The man then asked about Epstein's effectiveness, which he answered:
Epstein explained he would need $ 10,000 to approve coercion at Beth-din, and $ 60,000 for "tough people," who would use karate, rope, screwdrivers, and plastic bags over men's heads to get them to work together. And if all else fails, then:
Epstein also told the woman that she would not be present in the attack, planned to get out and about, and suggested that she do the same, explaining that being seen in public would give them an alibi.
The man and the woman turned out to be an undercover FBI agent.
Criminal trial
On October 9, 2013, eight men wearing Halloween masks, ski masks, and bandanas came to a warehouse in Middlesex County, New Jersey, where they were flexed and shadowed as they waited for their prey, a naughty 'no-nonsense' husband. Suddenly, a federal agent stormed in and arrested the kidnapper. Epstein was captured separately in Brooklyn.
On May 6, 2014, Wax pleads guilty in a federal court in New Jersey to conspire to kidnap. He named the men who arrested the previous October as his accomplice.
The trial of the main defendants began on 18 February 2015 in the United States District Court for the New Jersey District in Trenton. On April 21, 2015, they appeared before District Judge Freda L. Wolfson, where Epstein was found guilty of conspiracy to kidnap, while accomplices Jay Golstein and Binyamin Stimler were also found guilty of attempted kidnapping. David Epstein was released, partly by defense attorney, Henry Mazurek, stating that David was at a business meeting in Cincinnati during the beating of Usher Chaimowitz.
On December 15, during the verdict, Epstein informed the judge:
Epstein and Stimler were sentenced respectively 10 years (120 months) and 3 years (39 months). Wolfson said during the trial that "Nobody is allowed to commit acts of violence against others," and that the punishment is necessary to deter others in the Orthodox Jewish community from engaging in equal paid vigilantism.
One day later, Goldstein was sentenced to 8 years in prison (96 months). The other six defendants also pleaded guilty before the trial, and sentenced up to 48 months.
On January 12, 2016, David Wax was sentenced by Wolfson to 7 years in prison.
Reaction
Dayan David Eidensohn of Monsey, New York said, "I am surprised that people who call themselves rabbis will be involved in coercion." According to him, if a woman gets such a way and remarries, "her marriage is illegal and she will be considered to be living in sin, if she has children, the children are considered born out of wedlock, and that is considered a disgrace in society."
Samuel Heilman, professor of sociology and Jewish studies at Queens College, said: "Using strength, that was done centuries ago, most Jews do not operate like that anymore, but in this community... that's some kind of fundamentalist view."
Rabbi Moshe Tendler, professor of medical ethics at Yeshiva University said, "The idea that dinhb can issue orders for coercion is nonsense, trickery," and considers Epstein "unreliable."
