Education and certification

Tindall attended the University of Texas at Austin and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Government in 1964. Tindall then attended the University of Texas School of Law and received Juris Doctor in 1966. During his time as a law student in Austin, Tindall worked as Assistant Legislature for members of the Texas Representative Council. He was a member of the national championship team in the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition in 1966.

Tindall was Board Certified in Family Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and received certification in 1975. Tindall has also been a Certified Member of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers since 1978. In 1992, Tindall became a Certified Member of the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. In 1996, he attended the Harvard Law School Negotiation Workshop which ultimately led to his interest in collaborative law.

Legal career

Tindall began his legal practice with Houston law firm Fulbright and Jaworski in 1967. In 1973, Tindall founded the firm Tindall & amp; Foster, P.C. with his classmate, Charles C. Foster. The company was reorganized in 2010 and Tindall created a new company with Angela Pence UK, Tindall & amp; English, P.C. specializing in complex property divorce cases, prenuptial agreements, inter-state and international cases, parenting plans, collaborative family law, mediation, arbitration, expert witness consultation litigation, and legislative consultation.

Child Support Reform and Community Wealth Law

Beginning in the early 1980s, Tindall began lobbying to renew Texas family law, especially in the area of ​​community property and child support. He served as Chairman of the Supreme Court Advisory Committee on Child Support and Visiting Guides from 1985 to 1995. He led efforts to successfully pass a constitutional amendment to the Texas Constitution in 1987 to allow married people to have community property with survival rights. Tindall manages to secure the legislation to promote alternative dispute procedures including mediation, arbitration and collaboration.

In 1995, Tindall was appointed, by Texas Gov. George W. Bush, as Texas Commissioner for the Uniform Law Commission. In that capacity he has served on designing committees for the Interstate Uniform Family Support Act, the Law on the Protection and Law Enforcement of the Uniform of Children, the Uniform Brotherhood Act (as Chair) and the Uniform Collaborative Equality Act (as Deputy Chairman). He served as Chair of the Joint Editorial Board for the Family Law Uniform from 2001-2015 and as Chair of the Study Committee for the Model Veterans Court Act from 2013-2015. In 2015, Tindall was appointed Chair of the Formulation Committee for the Model Veterans Court Act, and was elected as Commissioner of Life for the Uniform Legal Commission.

Collaborative Law Reform

As a result of Tindall lobbying efforts, Texas adopted the first law of collaborative law in the United States in 2001. This endorsement marks the progress in law for families in transition and provides a legally recognized means of resolving private disputes without court intervention. He also led successful efforts to create the Houston Bar Association, the Collaborative Law Section, and the State Bar of Texas Collaborative Law Section. In 2009, the Uniform Law Commission approved the Collaborative Law Law Uniform and in 2011 Texas adopted the law. During his career, Tindall has written extensively on collaborative law.

Author of Law Book

In 1991, Tindall and Texas University Professor John J. Sampson wrote the first edition of Sampson and Tindall's Texas Family Code Annotated (Thomson Reuters), now in its 25th Annual Edition. Displays the author's comments for the Texas Family Code section along with key case quotes and references to lead a continuing legal education article, pioneering the book format as a resource and continuing to offer that information. Leadership to Bar

Tindall is recognized as a leader in the Texas Bar and other professional organizations. He is a Co-Presenter in the Sampson Biennial and Legal Tindall Legislation Family Update sponsored by the University of Texas School of Law, the Department of Legal Education. Tindall served as Director of the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals from 2009 to 2012. He completed his tenure as Trustee of the Collaborative Law Institute of Texas in February 2012. Awards

Tindall has been a recipient of many awards and awards. Tindall is honored by the Alternative Dispute Resolution Section of the American Bar Association with Lawyers 2012 as a Problem Solver Award. The American Bar Association respects him with this award in recognition of Tindall as "a role model for lawyers wanting to transition from litigator to peacemaker." Recently, Tindall was awarded the Gay G. Cox Collaborative Law Award by the Collaborative Law Institute of Texas in 2014.
