The Limbaugh family is a prominent family from Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Its members have served prominently as lawyers, judges, and political commentators, both in the Missouri region and on a national scale.

George Frederick Limbaugh, the first member of the Limbaugh family in America, was born in Germany around 1737 to Johannes Michael Limbach and Marie Listerer and arrived in Berks County, Pennsylvania as a child in 1753 and settled in Missouri in 1800 with his youngest son Michael and 19 other families. In 1758, George married Anna Catharine Ritter and had six sons: Johannes Limbaugh, George Frederick Limbaugh II, Peter Limbaugh, Henry Limbaugh, Christian Limbaugh, and Michael Limbaugh.

First generation:

  • Jefferson W. Limbaugh Jr. (1852-1905), judge and lawyer from Jackson, Missouri, who was one of Jackson's first mayors and a member of the bar for over 25 years. He was the son of Jefferson Limbaugh (1826-1852) who in 1849 started the Southern Democrat newspaper in Jackson.
  • Rush Hudson Limbaugh Sr. (1891-1996), lawyers, legislators, and American ambassadors; state legislators 1931-1932; Missouri Adviser for the War Emergency Channel, 1942-1946; President of the Missouri Bar, 1955-1956; President of Missouri State History Society, 1956-1959; Chairman of the Cape Girardeau Republican Committee, 1928-1938
    • Jefferson W. Limbaugh Jr. and Rush Limbaugh Sr. both grandchildren from North Carolina-born Daniel R. Limbaugh (1802-1870) with Jefferson descended from First Wife Daniel Hanna and Rush descended from Delilah's second wife.

Second generation:

  • Rush Hudson Limbaugh Jr. (1918-1990), lawyer and orator
  • Manley O. Limbaugh (born 1921), retired educator from Chester, Illinois. He was named after Manley Ottmer Hudson, the favorite law professor of Rush Hudson Limbaugh Sr..
  • Stephen Nathaniel Limbaugh Sr., (born 1927), a retired US District Court judge who also served as the Cape Girardeau District Prosecutor, 1955-1958. She married Anne M. Limbaugh, (1930-2017), Cape Girardeau community service leader.
  • Venieda Limbaugh Reynolds, (1928-2013), nephew of Rush Limbaugh Sr., president of the Cape County Republican Women's Club. She married Bill J. Reynolds (1929-2007), treasurer of Cape Girardeau District, 1980-2005.

Third generation: Children of Rush Limbaugh Jr.::

  • Rush Hudson Limbaugh III (b) 1951), American political commentator and host of The Rush Limbaugh Show .
  • David Limbaugh (born 1952), an American political commentator and author.

Children Stephen Sr.:

  • Stephen N. Limbaugh Jr., (b) 1952), current US District Court judge and former Missouri Supreme Court judge. He also served as the Cape Girardeau District Prosecutor, 1979-1982.
  • James P. Limbaugh, banker and hospital executive selected for the Southeast Missouri State University Council by Governor Matt Blunt.

Fourth generation:

  • Stephen N. Limbaugh III, son of Stephen N. Limbaugh Jr., piano player and composer.
  • Christopher K. Limbaugh, son of Stephen N. Limbaugh Jr., appointed the Tanjung Girardeau District Attorney Demanding the Attorney by Governor Jay Nixon. Her father and grandfather also served as the Cape Girardeau District Prosecutor.
  • Leah Nanney Calahan, grandson of Manley O. Limbaugh, works for the highest Court of Appeals for the U.S. Air Force.
