Careers

Richardson attended Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Oklahoma, and graduated with a B.A. degree and minor in education in 1963. He attended Oklahoma City University Law School where he was distinguished by the honor of receiving top marks for First Year Law students. He also attended the College of South Texas in Houston, Texas, and earned his J.D. in 1972.

Richardson was a Republican candidate for the US House of Representatives in Oklahoma's Second Congressional District in 1978 and 1980, both losing to Democrat Mike Synar.

Richardson served as US Attorney for the Eastern District of Oklahoma from 1981 to 1984. In 1981, along with US Attorney for two other Federal Districts in Oklahoma, Richardson was involved in the prosecution and confidence of 210 County Commissioners involved in a systematic kickback scheme that had been underway several decades.

In 2002, Richardson failed to run for governor of Oklahoma as an independent candidate. He finished third behind winners, Democratic candidate Brad Henry and Republican candidate, former Congressman Steve Largent. Richardson received a total of 146,200 votes (or 14 percent) of the voting vote of 1,035,620 (see table of results on [1]).

On April 23, 2017, Richardson announced that he would run for Republican nomination for governor in 2018. In April 2018, Richardson faced criticism for a campaign ad intended to promote his attitude towards illegal immigration. This ad refers to the death of Bob Barry Jr. June 2015, an old sports anchor in Oklahoma City NBC affiliate KFOR-TV (channel 4) from 1982 until just before his death, in an accident where his motorcycle scooter collided with a car creature. driven by Gustavo Gutierrez - an undocumented Mexican immigrant who was three times deported from the United States before the crash - who made an illegal roundback on two southern lanes at the northwest junction of Oklahoma City. The general manager of KFOR/KAUT, Wes Milbourn noted that the duopoly is obliged to run the ads as it meets the advertising requirements of the FCC campaign, but notes that "we are not happy with their advertising tactics and the exploits of Bob Barry [Jr.]". In a written statement, Barry's son, Matthew H. Barry, said that "The Barry family is well aware that Mr. Richardson chose to present a tragic death and not immediately from [f] ather us in his campaign advertising without seeking approval. ] e finds it very disturbing that Mr Richardson ran an ad that could imply that the Barry family supported by his election as the Oklahoma State Governor. In short, the Barry family did not appreciate the freedoms taken by Mr. Richardson and his campaign, and condemned the lack of respect shown for the loss tragic us.
