Personal life

Evans married Craig Schelske, an aspiring politician, on September 25, 1993. They have three children: Avery Jack (born August 21, 1999), Olivia Margaret (born January 22, 2003) and Audrey Elizabeth (October 6, 2004).

The day after Evans's departure from Dancing with the Stars in 2006, it was revealed that Evans had filed for divorce from Schelske. In court documents, Evans accuses Schelske of unemployment, abuse of alcohol, infidelity (including with family caregivers), that children walk over him watching adult entertainment, maintaining sexually explicit photos of himself and others, and verbal abuse. Schelske rejected all of his wife's claims; He explains that "distracted adult entertainment" is unintentional and involves Schelske and Evans, and that his photo collection is explicitly limited to the image of a married couple, and insists that Evans has many personal problems. Schelske also accused Evans of dealing with fellow musicians and artists, including country star Kenny Chesney; a representative for Chesney called the allegations "silly".

On September 28, 2007, a divorce between Evans and Schelske became final. Evans was ordered to pay Schelske $ 500,000 in allowances for ten years, and was awarded primary custody of their three children. Furthermore, Evans's former caretaker sued him for $ 3 million, claiming that Evans had tarnished his name by accusing him of having an affair with Schelske. The lawsuit was settled in July 2009 for $ 500,000.

After their divorce, Evans obtained two temporary restraining orders against Schelske in 2010 and 2011, limiting him to making derogatory statements about Evans or their previous marriage to the media.

Schelske also sued Evans' lawyer Nashville John Hollins, Sr. and his law firm (Hollins, Wagster, Yarbrough, Weatherly & Raybin, PC) for "slander, false lights and other damage" after Hollins gave an October 2006 interview to Magazine People about Evans's divorce claims. The lawsuit resulted in an undisclosed financial solution and a written apology from Hollins in 2011, stating in part: "My company and I represent Sara Evans in a highly disputed divorce from Craig Schelske... with my best ability I regret that my actions on behalf of Sara Evans causes Mr. Schelske to harm by any means. "Schelske issued a public statement thanking God, family and friends for living together during that period, and stated:" Sara is not my enemy... Hollins.. He did this. "

On June 14, 2008, Evans married Jay Barker, a former quarterback of the University of Alabama, winner of the national championship and current radio show host. They married in Franklin, Tennessee, with their children as their maid. Evans and his three children now live in Mountain Brook, Alabama, a suburb of Birmingham, Alabama, with Barker and four children Andrew (1999), Braxton (2000), and twins Sarah Ashlee and Harrison (September 10, 2001).
