The cost of raising a child varies from country to country.
The cost of raising a child is usually determined based on a formula that contributes to major spending areas, such as food, housing, and clothing. However, actual family spending may differ from forecast. For example, rental housing usually does not change when tenants have other children, so the cost of family housing may remain the same. In other cases, the house may be too small, in which case the family may move to a larger house at a higher cost.

According to Globalissues.org, "Nearly half the world - over three billion people - lives on less than $ 2.50 a day." These statistics include children. According to UNICEF statistics, in developing countries it costs approximately US $ 900 to raise a child for a year, and US $ 16,200 for raising children from birth to 17 years of age. (This calculation is difficult, as families in developing countries often do not operate with currency, but barter or trade to support their children.) United Kingdom
The Annual Cost Report of Children LV = (Liverpool Victoria) calculates the cost of raising a child from birth to 21 years. The latest report says the cost is £ 231,843. The cost of childcare, from birth to 21 years, is collected by the Center for Economic and Business Research (CEBR) for LV = in December 2015 and is based on costs for the 21st year period until December 2015. Additional research was conducted by Opinium Research LLP from 22 to 27 January 2016. The total sample size is 1,000 UK adults with children under the age of 18 and done online. United States
Exemption tax per child is $ 3,900 in 2013 which is based on the basic cost of raising a child. Plus there is a tax credit of up to $ 1000 for each child.
Based on a survey by the US Department of Agriculture, the table below shows estimates of Average Spending for Children by Families. The data comes from the Consumer Expenditure Survey by the US Department of Labor, conducted from 2005-06. Figures have been updated to the 2011 dollar using the Consumer Price Index. However, some have denied the numbers as biased for political reasons (eg, Texas A & M Financial University Professor H. Swint Friday: "The figures, reported by the US Department of Agriculture, are very misleading. for political purposes that lead to research methodologies biased against the search for the highest dollar amount to support the goal. ").
Figures from the USDA rise to age 18, and do not include college or university education. Nor does it offer any estimates of expenditure if the child remains at home as a dependent after the age of 18.

Based on forecasts by the Economic Times in April 2011, the cost of raising children from birth to adulthood (21 years) for middle- and upper-middle families comes to around INR 55 lakh ( US $ 82,000) in total.
