Brian Edward Sandoval born August 5, 1963) is an American politician, former lawyer, and 29th and current Nevada Governor. A Republican, Sandoval is a former US District Judge of the United States District Court for the District of Nevada. On June 9, 2010 Sandoval defeated his GOP opponent (including current Gibbons governor) to win the Republican nomination for governor elections in 2010. Before serving as a federal judge, he served as Attorney General of Nevada, the youngest chairman of the Nevada Gaming Commission and a legislator States. Sandoval is also the first Hispanic candidate to be elected in a state office in Nevada.

Sandoval was born in Redding, California, to Ron Sandoval, the maintenance supervisor of the FAA, and his wife Gloria (Gallegos) Sandoval, a legal secretary. When Republican candidate Jim Gibbons decided to retire to run for Nevada's governor in 1994, Sandoval ran for Reno-based Reno 25th District. He won an open seat and won re-election in 1996. After he retired from his seat in 1998, Gibbons' wife Dawn Gibbons won an open seat.
