Jeffery M. Leving (born July 2, 1951, Chicago, Illinois) is a Chicago divorce lawyer and author who specializes in marriage and family law. He was known primarily for his vocal advocacy of father's rights, and hosted two radio shows. His television commercials and radio are famous in the Chicago area.

Early life and education
Born in Chicago and raised on the South Side, Leving's father worked as a bartender and tailor while pursuing his success as an artist. Leving was deeply affected by his parents' divorce in 1967, when he was 16 years old. Leving attended Senn Middle School, then graduated from Southern Illinois University in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Radio and Television. He received a Juris Doctor from the Illinois Institute of Technology at the Chicago-Kent College of Law in 1979, and was licensed to practice in Illinois, US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, US Circuit Court 7, and US. Supreme Court.

Legal career
More than 30 years ago, Leving helped pioneer the Fathers' Rights Movement when he found a gap in the judicial system. It was then that he began to seek equality and legal process for fathers everywhere. In 1979, Leving became a staff attorney for the Chicago Volunteer Legal Services Foundation, and in 1981 joined the company allowing him to use their offices to start his own practice during his spare hours, "focusing on family law, divorce, father, and child custody ". Leving achievements include joint writing of the Joint Detention Law of Illinois, Illinois Virtual Visitation, Right to DNA Testing Examinations, and Unlawful Legal Violations or Parenting time Interference Laws. He also testified before the two branches of the Illinois Legislature on Joint Detention, Elderly Invitations, and Child Support Benefits.
Leving and rights activist father Glenn Sacks argues that the intervention of parental time may result from the relocation of custodial parents outside the practical distance of parents without custody, and has campaigned for a denied assumption that prohibits such relocation. In 1985, Leving helped draft the Joint Detention Act in Illinois, allowing judges to establish divorced parents have equal responsibility to raise their children. Leving works for his part in the Illinois General Assembly, and is "credited with generating a lot of pressure that makes the bill legal." In 1991, Leving was described as "one of the most recognizable names among Chicago lawyers".
In 2000, Leving was a lawyer in the case of 6-year-old EliÃÆ'¡n González, who was rescued after being found tied to an inner tube off the coast of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Mrs. Gonzalez is drowning in her attempts to escape from Cuba to the United States, and the presence of children in the United States is in dispute in court. When the case was considered by the US Supreme Court, Leving had previously spearheaded the amicus brief, which established the basis of the detainee case to reunite Elian Gonzalez with his father, Juan Miguel, in Cuba. Manuel Gonzalez, Elian Gonzalez's great uncle, then defends Leving to reunite Elian with his father. Leving appears as an expert at CNN, CNBC, MSNBC, Fox Media News and Court Court i> to analyze the case of Elian Gonzalez.
In 2011 Leving represented a 20-year-old Mariah Yeater in a paternity claim against singer Justin Bieber, who was accused by Yeater of impregnating her after a brief sexual encounter reported after one of her concerts in Los Angeles. Leving actively encourages Bieber's legal team to compile DNA tests.
Leving often supports legal reforms on radio and television shows, such as the Oprah Winfrey Show.
Write and art
Leving is the author of three books:
- Dad's Rights (Basic Book, 1997) presents suggestions for fathers who are involved in custody disputes.
- Divorce Wars: Field Guide to Winning Tactics, Preemptive Attacks, and Top Maneuvers When Divorce Gets Bad (Harper Collins, 1998), provides step-by-step guidance to people through difficult divorce.
- How to Become a Good Divorced Father (Jossey-Bass, 2012), advises divorced or divorced fathers, and incorporates real-life anecdotes from fathers who successfully navigate their way through divorce while maintaining a strong and loving relationship with their children. The book "received support from Francis Cardinal George of the Chicago Archdiocese and received praise from President Barack Obama".
Leving is also the publisher of Leving's Divorce Magazine, a new magazine for divorced men focusing on parenting and male legal issues.
In addition to his writings, Leving is a painter, and showcased his artwork in the online gallery. In 2013, Leving sells an abstract work that memorializes the case of EliÃÆ'¡n González.
