Dirk Padgett is an American lawyer and official at the corps of US Naval Corps Judge Advocates. Padgett is well known for his appointment to serve as a prosecutor for the Guantanamo military commission.
In civilian life Padgett was an Attorney in Bedford County Virginia. He was employed as a Commonwealth Assistant Attorney for Bedford County in late 1995. He was recalled to serve an active duty obstacle in Iraq on October 14, 2004.
On 5 January 2005, Roanoke Times published an op-ed by Padgett, entitled "" Beware of nonsense about nonsense about Iraq from home security. " Padgett, then a lieutenant commander in charge of Iraq, was critical of civilians at home criticizing the behavior of the war, without ever having experienced military service.
Carol Rosenberg, writing at Lakeland Ledger, on July 15, 2009, described the electronic audio management system of the newly damaged Military Commission when Commander Padgett tried to make his opening statement. According to Rosenberg Padgett asks for a delay, while the Obama administration is reviewing the system of the military commission.
