Nevada selection predictions and analysis
Ralston is nationally known for his analysis of the Nevada election, primarily based on early voting results. He has made appearances as a political commentator on various TV shows and networks including Meet the Press, MSNBC, Fox News, and PBS. Ralston accurately predicted Senator Harry Reid's victory in 2010 based on his initial sound predictions, although voting showed that Reid would lose. He accurately predicts both the presidential election in Nevada and the Nevada Senate election in 2016 on the basis of preliminary voting data.
2016 Nevada state convention
Reporting the Nevada Democratic state convention in 2016, Ralston tweeted that Senator supporters Bernie Sanders had thrown seats. The Associated Press filed a similar report. NPR initially repeated Ralston's reporting just like any other media did, but erased it after only finding evidence that a chair was lifted in the air but nothing was thrown. Snopes, a website documenting and debating urban legends and rumors, identified Ralston as a source for a statement that Sanders supporters had thrown seats and said there was no evidence to support him.
The Nevada Independent
Ralston plans to launch a digital news publication in early 2017 called The Nevada Independent first reported in November 2016. The site was launched on January 17, 2017, and Ralston announced he would reveal the source of all his donations.
